Ah, there you are. I’m so glad you’re here! Welcome!
I’m Jamie; wife, mama of two girls, geek, book nerd, modern-day hippie, crafty genius, homeschool mom, and… muggle, if we are being completely transparent. I’ve always identified with so many different things, but never totally fit into one niche. So I stopped trying. I learned to embrace my uniqueness, and hopefully, I will teach my kids to do the same. And maybe encourage some of you to do so as well. The world would be pretty boring if we all fit the same mold anyway, now wouldn’t it?
I’ve been a geek for as long as I can remember. As a kid, you were more likely to find me curled up somewhere with a book than playing with toys. Or making some kind of art. I love creating. Harry Potter was my first introduction to a fandom and my first love. I went through a few rough times as a teen and young adult; Harry and his story, his world, helped me get through it. It was a sort of escape, but also inspiration. Knowing that many people, including wizards, endure incredibly hard times. And while making the right choice isn’t always easy, it is always worth it. If we are persistent and choose good we find friends, we find love in many different ways; we find purpose; and things do, eventually, get better. Light always has the ability to overcome the dark, we just have to turn on the light. From that point on there have been many different fandoms I have fallen for, both book and film. Things that have helped me, inspired me and entertained me through different seasons of my life. And now as a parent, I get to experience being a geek from a completely new perspective. I get to share those fandoms with my children and see what inspires them!
So what am I doing here? Well, my plan is to share some fun and useful information and geek out over our favorite characters and fandoms together. I’ll be sharing my experiences as a geek and a geek parent. I’ll share craft projects and activities; homeschool ideas; allergy-friendly recipes (we are a family full of allergies and sensitivities); dining and travel tips and reviews; natural living and eco-friendly tips; and anything else I can think of. And perhaps the most meaningful part will be encouraging a lifestyle of kindness, acceptance, and celebrating our individuality! Not everyone is born a geek, we are an incredibly unique and special species!
I’m excited to share my experience with you, connect with you, and celebrate geek life with you. I hope you will join me on this journey, I do believe it is going to be magical!
